And live in New York it's Saturday Night!
Created in 1975, Saturday night live has continued to be a very popular show with a wide audience base that continues to touch on all subjects from politics to sports, and even skits about everyday life. This show has lasted through generations, influencing popular culture with and becoming a classic in late night programming that people still enjoy today.
The Original Cast
When the show was created, well known comedians were recruited in New York to star in it including Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase and John Belushi. After their fame gained through SNL many of the cast would then star in different movies like John Belushi did in Blues Brothers and Animal House.
The comedic styling of SNL from the 70s to now hasn't changed much, including their type of set up that is still used today. Saturday Night Live has a tradition of including a guest host, a live band and large cast to act out the skits. The number of cast members has grown significantly since Saturday Night Live's creation, but being a guest host or a live band on the show has become a huge honor and a large tradition that not many people would turn down.
