The invention in the 1970s that revolutionized the music industry is the Walkman. It was invented by Sony when Sony's co-founder went on many business trips, and found himself carrying a large cassette recorder to listen to. When he asked the company's Executive Deputy President to make a cassette recorder that wasn't as large and tedious, the final product was the Sony Walkman. With a personal headphone jack and its small body, the Walkman was private and compact, unlike the previous larger cassette players. The first Walkman came out on July 1st, 1979 and was a massive hit to the public. Its revolutionary new way to listen to music changed the way the music industry and was a huge breakthrough in selling popular media.
The iPod
The iPod is one of the most popular inventions in this century. It debuted in 2001, when Apple's Steve Jobs introduced it to a small group of journalists. With its catchy line, "A 1000 songs in your pocket," the public was quickly drawn into this product. Its new clicker wheel design was never seen before, and the amount of music it carried was unprecedented. 5 GB of space on a portable music player had never been heard of before. Also, its ten hours of battery life was considered revolutionary.
Now, in 2012, the iPod is still the technological hit that it used to be. However, it has branched off into several different designs and has improved dramatically. iPods can now have touch screen, come as small as a large coin, or play movies and games.
