From 1970 to 2012
The 70s were a underrated but extremely important part in American History. This decade experienced many historically notable events such as the fall of Saigon by the North Vietnamese, the infamous Watergate Scandal, and the OAPEC Oil Embargo. Also, the 70s experienced a mass growth in technological imporvement and innovation. The television industry exploded, with a wave of new shows that are still popular to this day. However unrelated these events may be, they all contributed to a new age for the media. World events shaped the newscasting industry, technology continued to increase the power of the media with new inventions, and television shows and movies in the 1970s still reach out to the modern era.
The purpose of this project is to find the common ground shared between the generation of the 70s and our own generation due to the media. From the increase of household televisions in the 70s to today's increased internet access, the media has played a pivotal role in forming and shaping generations. On this website, we will talk about how the media in the 70s is similar to the power of the media today. When taken a glance, the industry in the different time periods may not look so similar. However, once there has been a careful and detailed study, it is obvious that the media is still quite similar in its patterns, products, and innovations.
